BELLAPAIS - ABBEY
Just a 10 minute walk away from Villa Vista is the beautiful village of Bellapais, home to the ancient abbey (and many a fine restaurant). The abbey was built between 1158 and 1205, then enlarged and finished between 1267 and 1284 during the reign of the french King Hugh III. The abbey was constructed by monks who moved to the island from Jerusalem. It is a spectacular example of Gothic architecture in Northern Cyprus, with a commanding view of the whole northern coastline of the island, as well as a spectacular mountain view. The glorious abbey hosts an impressive classical music festival annually.
GIRNE - HARBOUR
Just a 5 minute drive away from Villa Vista is the delightful old harbour of Girne (Kyrenia). The horseshoe shaped harbour is the focal point of the town, with its colourful fishing boats and yachts, and with its lively bars and restaurants, it is the heart of Girne as much for locals as for tourists. On the eastern corner of the harbour (to the north east of the city) lies the impressive castle, still in perfect condition. It was built in the 7th century by the Byzantines in order to protect the city against Arab raids.
ESENTEPE - GOLF
Within just a 20 minute drive of Villa Vista is the prestigious Korineum Golf & Country Club near Esentepe. The stunning international standard golf course is carved from a natural forest of Umbrella Pine and Olive trees with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea on one side, and breath taking views of the Kyrenia (Girne) mountain range on the other. This makes for a truly memorable experience one will never forget. Please view the golf packages for details of exclusive substantial discounts (approx. 25%) open to all Villa Vista residents on green fees.
GUZELYURT - CITRUS REGION
Approximately 40 minutes away by car on the northern skirts of the Troodos Mountain, on the greenest plato in Northern Cyprus is the charming town of Guzelyurt (Morphou). Rich in underground water reserves, and consequently the leading part of Northern Cyprus in citrus farming, Guzelyurt is the producer and exporter of the famous, scented, delicious oranges, lemons and limes of Cyprus. The Guzelyurt region provides ideal picnic spots.
GAZIMAGUSA - BEACHES
Approximately ¾ hour away by car is Gazimagusa (Famagusta), home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Northern Cyprus. There are beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see, offering one the opportunity to relax in glorious sunshine on golden sands. Most public beaches near Gazimagusa offer the essentials of a fabulous day on the beach; sun bed and sunshade hire, and showers to wash off the salt water after a cooling dip in the sea. Many have beachside restaurants or cafés for cooling drinks, mid-morning snacks or a relaxed lunch with a glass of wine!
DIPKARPAZ - WILD DONKEYS
Approximately 2 hours away by car is Dipkarpaz, the populated town of the Karpaz peninsular (pan handle) region. The wild donkeys to be found in this region are not so much wild as liberated, being descended from Cypriot domestic donkeys left to roam over the Karpas Peninsula National Park. Now a protected animal, the donkeys played a very important role in agriculture on the Karpaz peninsular, to carry Olives from the groves and cereals fro the fields to the mills.
